The NASA director, he is seen as a smart and business like man. He commands the mission to save Mark and also helps the people of Earth both stay updated on his condition and updated on NASA’s efforts to save him. He is a leader to most of the characters in this novel including Venkat Kapoor, the NASA Mars mission director. We see these two characters work effectively  in order to return Mark back to Earth.
